A magical tool for phonics

Phonic Potions is the newest of our teaching tools to support early reading. We’ve come up with a new twist on identifying and sorting real and nonsense words… your chosen phonemes are tipped into a magic potion jar and (Abracadabra!) out pop bubbles of words, one at a time. Burst the nonsense ones and bank the real ones.

We’ve started by launching Set 1, which includes first letters and sounds. Alongside are sets of supporting word sheets to print off. Set 2 will follow shortly, covering digraphs, vowel graphemes and a progression of CV patterns.

Do check out our other phonics tools covering Set 1 letters and sounds. All the activities have a choice of word sets, allowing you to tailor your teaching to the children’s learning stage and to progress in those essential, small steps.

Use Phonic Pencil to show letter formation and to play missing phoneme games. Put words through the Word Segmenter machine to break them down into their component sounds. Take the stress out of assessment with the hugely versatile Phonic Flash Cards. For open-ended word-making and blending fun, see Letter Fans, Alphabet Cards and Scramblish.
