A popular tool to explore number patterns, adding, difference and multiplication.

Set the Square up to suit your lesson: choose the start number, step amount and number of columns/rows. Set a variety of problems by using the wand to hide and reveal digits and the paint tools to show patterns.

  • NUMBER - Number Toolkit

NUMBER - Number Toolkit PACK +

Popular tools to explore number patterns, adding, difference and multiplication. Our Interactive Square (leading resource) has hide/show features, as well as paintbrushes to show patterns. 'Random hide' numbers then paint the boxes you wish pupils to work out. The square can display the starting number at either top or bottom, and allows you to alter starting number and step. (See the How To guide for how to personalise it further to fit your lesson. Our collection of Top Tips offers some great ideas for the classroom.) The Number Line can also be personalised (see the How To guide). The Function Machine uses numbers between 0-20 and can be set to add or subtract values between 0-10. Ask pupils to predict the output number; or hide the function and ask them to work it out from the numbers generated.

  • NUMBER - Number Toolkit

NUMBER - Number Toolkit PACK +

These classic tools have a multitude of uses - explore adding, difference, multiplication and number patterns. 'Interactive Number Line' (the leading resource) is ideal for starting to count on, count back and to explore number relationships. 'Buzzing Along a Number Line' helps further providing a visual aid to counting on and counting back. The Number Square enables more numbers to be seen, ideal for place value investigations. Resources can be personalised, allowing you to differentiate, setting different start and end points as well as varying the step (see the How To guides and Top Tips). Finally, Function Machine is a fun way of predicting outcomes, or working out the operation (hide/show the function).

NUMBER - Number Squares Toolkit PACK +

Two versions of this versatile tool, to explore place value, either of integers or of numbers with 1 or 2 decimal places. Personalise to fit your lesson objectives by changing start point, grid size and step. Our classic number square now has a decimal big sister! Use the smaller thumbnail to launch that version. Click on the video below to see how a Year 6 teacher used this tool to help her pupils prepare for SATs.

  • TIME - Hare Race

TIME - Hare Race PACK +

A super, sports-themed collection. The main thrust of this pack is time durations - and therefore it practises subtraction skills, mostly of numbers up to 100 (e.g. time recorded in seconds or minutes; or durations within the hour). Pupils could be extended to tackle durations of longer than an hour. A simple stimulus, 'Hare Race', introduces the context, with random differences that pupils should calculate mentally. Some will be very easy, others more tricky, like difference between 48 and 62. Discuss counting-on strategies with pupils, using a number square or number line for reference. Further activities approach duration in a word problem format, or use the Compare Clocks tools to set your own challenges. For further subtraction practice, try our Skill Builder subtraction games.

  • NUMBER - Visual Number Bonds

NUMBER - Visual Number Bonds PACK +

Practise number bonds to 10, 15 and 20 through fun, game-style activities - together with follow-up sheets for consolidation. A sound knowledge of number bonds provides a firm grounding for many mental calculations. These interactives show the bonds in a pictorial style using blocks - giving pupils a visual reference while learning the concept. These simple games ask pupils to find the missing number from a pair, to total either 10, 15 or 20. The lead resource is a basic matching exercise to pair bonds to 10, by fitting shapes together to make complete blocks. Additionally, we've included printable sheets to practise making number pairs, plus a number bonds game for pupils to play at home. Also try our Alien Number Bond Pack, which focuses on adding to 5, 10 or 20.
