Grouping Highlighter
A text analysis tool to highlight and group words
Use this activity to analyse a text and its word types. Paste or type in a piece of text, then use the pens to highlight words, e.g. red for adjectives and blue for adverbs. The selected words will appear on the corresponding notelet, grouping the words according to how you have highlighted them. Click the magnifying glass to enlarge them. Remove a word from a notelet using the 'white' highlighter to revert the word to unmarked.
Your text and annotations can be pre-prepared and saved. Note: You should open the text from within this activity (double clicking the file from its location won't work).

'Highlighter' Text Analysis Tools
PACK +
These highlighter tools are perfect for focusing pupils on language features of texts. Paste or type in a piece of text, then use the different coloured pens to highlight words and phrases, e.g. dependent clauses or descriptive language. Try hiding words that are highlighted using the 'eye' icons. Ask what effect this has on the text. The 'Collapsing' and 'Grouping' variations can be used for different approaches. 'Grouper' zaps words in each colour into boxes, so that words of different types can be 'collected'. The 'Collapser' allows texts to be shrunk as words are removed, showing how important they are to meaning or effect, as their absence is noticed.
